Anauá Fish

Anauá River · Fonseca Lake

Anauá Fish is a liveaboard operation anchored where the Anauá River meets the Rio Branco, in southern Roraima — one of the most preserved and lightly fished stretches of the Amazon basin. The headline target is the speckled peacock bass (Cichla temensis) in its three-bar spawning phase, with butterfly peacock bass, popoca, arowana, trahira and pirarucu coming out of the Anauá lakes and trophy catfish (piraíba, redtail, jau, sorubim, tiger sorubim) holding in the Rio Branco mainstem. The outfit holds full environmental licensing and inspection clearance.

The Manauara hosts 12 to 18 anglers in 9 air-conditioned en-suite cabins, with an AC dining room and lounge. On-board comforts include Starlink internet, a washing machine, dedicated drinks coolers, a barbecue and oven. The all-inclusive package covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, water, soft drinks, beer, cocktails and spirits, with a bartender and waiter on duty every day.

Fishing skiffs are platformed flats with non-slip rubber decks, Mercury 30 HP outboards and branded individual seats. Each skiff goes out with a beer-and-soda cooler stocked the night before to each angler's request. Guides are local Amazon natives; natural bait is provided for catfish trips and tackle rental is available for anyone traveling light. The last night closes with a beach barbecue luau, and on any day the group can swap the on-board lunch for a hammock camp set up in the jungle by the crew.

The non-fishing standout is an 800-meter rainforest trail to Lago do Fonseca, with a second skiff staged on the far side. The full pickup-to-pickup logistics begin in Boa Vista: airport meet-and-greet, one night at a gateway hotel, a 150 km coach transfer to Porto de Vista Alegre (a district of Caracaraí), a welcome barbecue at the operation's own fishing ranch and a two-hour speedboat run down the Rio Branco to the mothership.
