Pousada Recanto Xingu

Pousada Recanto Xingu is a fishing lodge in the Upper Xingu region, Canarana (Mato Grosso), close to the Pequizal Naruvôtu Indigenous Territory, one of the last Upper Xingu stretches with intact populations of large catfish and prized sport fish. The land-based structure, with air-conditioned rooms and full board, serves as a base for daily boat fishing across two distinct angling scenarios.

The standard package covers the Coronel Vanick and Sete de Setembro rivers up to the indigenous reserve boundary, targeting cachara, red-tail catfish (pirarara), jau, pacu, matrinxã and trahira. For anglers seeking access to more pristine waters, the reserve package opens fishing inside the Pequizal Naruvôtu TI, on the Culuene, Sete de Setembro and upper Xingu rivers, where the giant catfish piraíba is the standout quarry and larger specimens are regularly encountered.

Every outing runs in an aluminum boat with a 40hp outboard, a fishing guide and unlimited tuvira live bait. Fuel is fully covered with no consumption cap. A cooler with water, soft drinks and ice accompanies each boat; in the standard package, canned beer is also included on board. Shore lunch can be arranged on request.

The season runs April through September. Giant catfish (piraíba and red-tail) peak in April and May; jau are consistent throughout. Cachara, payara and pacu fish best from June onward. The lodge operates on fixed four-day fishing cycles, with arrivals on Sundays and departures on Fridays.
