Pousada Rio Trombetas

Pousada Rio Trombetas runs seven wooden chalets built on stilts along the Trombetas River, in the rural district of Cachoeira Porteira, within the municipality of Oriximiná, Pará. It's a fixed base for sport-fishing expeditions on the Trombetas basin, a major blackwater tributary of the Lower Amazon reachable only by boat from the local community.

The 5-day fishing package (6 nights) starts at R$7,950 per person and covers a chalet with air conditioning and a private bathroom, full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks), soft drinks and beer, and the entire fishing setup: a 5-meter boat with a 15 HP outboard, a dedicated local guide per boat, bait and sinkers.

The Trombetas follows the Amazon's classic flood-pulse pattern: water levels climb from February through May, peak around May, then fall steadily to their lowest point in November, a seasonal swing of more than 4 meters at the gauge closest to the lodge. The low-water period, roughly September through December, exposes beaches and sandbanks and tends to concentrate fish in pools and backwaters, the window most anglers target for peacock bass here.

The river and its tributaries hold a dense lineup of Amazonian species: peacock bass, trairão (giant trahira), jaú catfish, pirarara (redtail catfish), pacu, surubim (tiger catfish), piraíba, and pescada-branca, among others.

Getting to the lodge runs through Cachoeira Porteira, reached by ferry or express boat from Santarém or Oriximiná, followed by roughly an hour each of road and river transfer to the base. Part of the package fee is returned as a royalty to the Cachoeira Porteira Quilombola community, a direct link between the operation and the territory it sits in.
