Pousada Rio Xingu

Pousada Rio Xingu sits on a hilltop on the banks of the Volta Grande do Rio Xingu in western Pará, 80 km from Altamira and inside the Xingu State Sport Fishing Reserve — a region shielded by waterfalls and rapids that holds the species diversity of the Eastern Amazon. The lodge is land-based, with 9 ensuite cabins (5 triples + 4 doubles) featuring air conditioning, a private balcony and minibar, with staff who speak Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Fishing days run from 8.4 m aluminum boats fitted with 25 HP outboards and electric trolling motors, with a native guide aboard, fresh live bait from local rivers, fuel covered for the day, and a stocked drinks-and-snacks cooler. The fishing grounds sit right at the lodge's doorstep — the Volta Grande do Xingu concentrates rocky stretches, rapids and deep holes that hold both trophy peacock bass and giant Amazon catfish (piraíba, jaú, redtail catfish, sorubim).

The season opens April through October and splits into two distinct windows: April–June favors the big Amazon catfish (sorubim, redtail catfish, ripsaw catfish, piraíba, jaú); July–October is prime for peacock bass, payara (dogtooth tetra) and bicuda, with the catfish still present as a secondary play. Packages run five effective fishing days from Friday to the following Thursday, with included ground transfer Altamira ↔ lodge.

On-property amenities include a viewing deck over the Xingu, a swimming pool, an air-conditioned common room with billiards, and full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks). Canned beer, mineral water and soft drinks are unlimited; spirits are not provided. Access is exclusively via Altamira — the Belém ↔ Altamira leg is operated only by Azul.
