FloatingRio Preto da Eva
Pousada Pavon Amazon
Rio Preto da Eva
Pousada Pavon Amazon is a floating fishing lodge anchored on the Rio Preto da Eva, a blackwater river in the interior of Amazonas state, a few hours from Manaus via the AM-010 highway. The wooden house sits moored against the forested bank and serves as a base for peacock bass fishing across the surrounding lakes, beaches and channels, reached by small aluminum boats run by experienced local boatmen.
The main target is the speckled peacock bass (Cichla temensis), the largest peacock bass in the Amazon, which shows up both in its vivid three-barred phase and in the silvery, spotted paca color phase. Bicuda (Amazon pike characin) and other blackwater species round out the catch. The dark, clear water of the Preto da Eva rewards casting with topwater artificial lures.
River level drives the season. The system fills and floods the forest through the first months of the year; from August the water drops and exposes wide white-sand beaches, concentrating peacock bass in lagoons and channel mouths. The low water draws down further between October and November, the most predictable stretch of the year. That is why the scheduled season runs from August to December, at the peak of low water.
The floating lodge offers air-conditioned rooms with single beds and a large covered deck over the water where meals and downtime happen. Board is full, with breakfast, lunch and dinner cooked in the house kitchen and an appetizer before dinner.
The standard package covers five fishing days per person and includes round-trip transfer from Manaus, the boat with its boatman, daily fuel, water, soft drinks and beer. Spirits such as Campari and caipirinha are on the guest. Seasons run as scheduled groups, with a 35% deposit and the balance paid in installments.
