Pousada Canarana

On the Upper Juma River in Autazes, Amazonas, Pousada Canarana sits on a prime stretch of one of central Amazonia's most productive peacock bass fisheries. The property stands on wooden stilts above the riverbank: a long suite block with a covered veranda and a circular palm-thatch maloca, with open decks overlooking the dark, tannin-stained waters of the Juma River. Access from Manaus takes roughly four hours combining paved road, unpaved track, and boat transfer, all included in the package.

Packages run 7 days with 5 full fishing days. Eight standardized aluminum bass boats serve groups at a 1-guide-to-2-anglers ratio; each boat carries an outboard motor, a quiet electric trolling motor for stealthy presentations, a drinks cooler, and a sun canopy. The Upper Juma produces speckled peacock bass in both spawning (three-bars) and non-spawning (paca) color phases (both are Cichla temensis), along with monoculus peacock bass (Cichla monoculus), pirarucu (Arapaima gigas), wolf fish (traíra), brycon (matrinxã), and pike characin (bicuda). The operation is 100% catch-and-release sportfishing, though fresh fish dishes are served at the lodge.

Accommodation is in double suites (1 bathroom) or quad suites (2 bathrooms), all fitted with split air conditioning, electric shower, and private bathroom. Daily housekeeping service is included. Starlink Wi-Fi covers the entire property. The central maloca serves as the restaurant, bar, and social hub, with a billiards table available during downtime.

The all-inclusive rate covers all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) plus a full open bar: draft-quality lagers, caipirinhas, Campari, vodka, cachaça, soft drinks, still and sparkling water, tonic, juices, and seasonal fruits. Two special barbecues are built into the week: a jungle BBQ deep in the rainforest and a welcome or farewell churrasco at the lodge. Unlimited fuel and full round-trip Manaus–lodge transfer are also covered.

An on-site tackle shop carries lures, lines, and accessories for last-minute needs, with rod, reel, and complete kit rentals available for anglers who prefer not to check gear. The lodge takes up to 16 anglers and welcomes groups, pairs, and solo guests.
